1. Chasing Mistress Ford Signalling a long-awaited return to chamber music for Patterson, With Deviations can be viewed as a musical exploration of the racier manifestations of love, with each of the three movements alluding to a well-known operatic character in whose life love and seduction play a prominent role. No prizes will be awarded for guessing the first movement's personage, and as far as the music's character is concerned the title is self-explanatory. The nocturnal second movement might be interpreted as a quiet moment in the life of a well-known Mediterranean lover prior to his comeuppance. As for the finale, the action could be said to revolve around a certain hairdresser from Southern Spain!
